Retirement is just a convenient invention created years ago as an avenue to clear the work place for new blood. Retirement is a stage of life that could, for some, last anywhere from 5 to as many as 20 years. The sooner you realize that retirement is just an extension of living, the better equipped you will be to plan for this event. The term “Golden Years” seems to have all kinds of connotations; to some it may mean the beginning of the end, to others more fortunate it means the years of freedom with gold! Yes, to many of the latest generation of baby boomers about to retire or recently retired, the “Golden Years” have become the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, i.e., the free time and the financial ability to enjoy their favorite activities and perhaps even serve a purpose to their community. Retirement often coincides with important life changes; over time, a retiree will virtually eliminate the frequent social contacts with previous work-related associates, will have a completely different spending pattern, will have the time for new or inactive hobbies, sports, or other activities, might sell a long term residence, and yes, may even move to a new location.

It’s difficult to tell what we’re going to be satisfied with after our days of work have finished.
Have you ever actually sat and pondered retirement? What will you do on a day-to-day basis once you’re finally finished with your career? Will you go sailing on that dream yacht it took you twenty years to pay off? Will you venture all over the United States in search of quaint towns and antique shops? Or maybe you’re more interested in just kicking back at the old homestead and reading the paper. This routine certainly varies from person to person.
